Abbra Kotlarczyk is an enthusiastic painter and arts writer who holds a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Art) at the Queensland University of Technology. Abbra moved to Melbourne early in 2006 to further her artistic practice and gain greater exposure to contemporary art. She has ongoing involvement with Artlink Magazine and has been employed at Arc One Gallery in Melbourne for almost three years. Here she has been fortunate to assist artists such as Sue Ford, Robert Owen, Anne Zahalka, Julie Rrap, Janet Laurence and Imants Tillers.
Born and raised in the rainforest behind Mullumbimby in Northern NSW her work responds to the significant relocation from the natural to the urban environment. Through documenting her ‘constructed’ surroundings Abbra explores the physical and psychological tensions between the individual and the harsh impositions of the constructed landscape.
