Annette Iggulden works with words and images in her art practice. She draws on narratives from history, literature, poetry and the mass media, and ‘re-writes’ them using two alternative scripts derived from alphabetic writing. The word’s illegibility evokes a visual image of the voice that emphasises the silences contained within all narratives and the ‘silence’ of those who speak but are not heard in our society. Her doctoral exegesis, Women’s Silence: In the Space of Words and Images (2002), is held in the Research Libraries of the National Gallery of Australia and other major state galleries. Her work is represented in major collections in Australia and the United Kingdom.
